According to the NFL, Rihanna will perform at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show.

Confirming the news, the singer went ahead to post a photo of a football announcing the news on her social media accounts.

Even though the message was not captioned, the message was gotten loud and clear. An image revealed the singer’s hand holding a football with the NFL logo on it. According to the NFL, Rihanna will perform at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show.

It is the first scheduled performance for a performer whose most recent solo album, “Anti,” was released in January 2016 and who last appeared on stage at the Grammy Awards in early 2018.

“We’re excited to partner with Rihanna, Roc Nation and the N.F.L. to bring music and sports fans a momentous show,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president for Apple Music and Beats.

The Umbrella crooner has devoted the ten years of her career to creating an empire and has successfully been able to isolate her business endeavours from her music career. Rihanna “has been teasing her new song for more than a year, and if she’s ready to unleash it, and has been recently seen in and out of the studio off late.

However, the Super Bowl Halftime Show might just be the ideal venue for Rihanna to unveil all those unfinished projects.

In solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, the former 49ers quarterback who has been without a team since becoming a free agent in March 2017, the musician declined offers to perform on football’s greatest platform. The declaration is an about-face for the singer. Due to Kaepernick’s protesting police brutality against Black people by kneeling during the national anthem, the league allegedly blackballed him.

The NFL in 2019 hired Jay-Z and Roc Nation, the rapper’s entertainment and sports company, as “live music entertainment strategists” to advise on the Super Bowl halftime show and contribute to the league’s activism campaign, Inspire Change, in response to player protests and a potential loss of cachet for the performance.

According to the company’s website, Roc Nation manages Rihanna and has her under contract with its record label.

The third halftime performance under Roc Nation’s direction took place in Inglewood, California, last February. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige, who are all from the same city as Eminem, had well-received performances that bookended the rapper’s set. Eminem knelt after playing “Lose Yourself” in a gesture that appeared to be a nod to Kaepernick’s protest, which N.F.L. officials saw him do during rehearsals.

In the years since the release of her last album, Rihanna has intermittently teased new music but none of it has come to pass. She has, however, appeared as a guest on a small number of singles by other artists, including DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard chart in 2017.

While the singer has been concentrating on her business empire, which includes the Savage x Fenty lingerie brand and skin care and makeup lines that have contributed to her $1.7 billion net worth, as estimated in 2021 by Forbes, what would be Rihanna’s ninth studio album has acquired a near-mythic quality among fans, who frequently refer to it as “R9.”

Rihanna gave birth to her first child with rapper ASAP Rocky earlier this year.

Despite the long wait for an album from Rihanna, she said in a more recent interview with Vogue, I’m looking at my next project completely differently from the way I had wanted to put it out before,” adding: “It’s authentic, it’ll be fun for me, and it takes a lot of the pressure off.”
